Spelling Word Practice#1: BINGO

I decided to have James play Spelling Word BINGO. I spelled the word and he covers the photo of that word on his card and writes the word down. 

He didn't understand at first WHY he had to write the word down but after his Daddy explained to him that it helps him associate the spelling of the word with the picture which in turn will stick in his memory better. After the fifth word he got the hang of it.

The above photo is the first test that we took. Each night we'll do a test at the end of practice to further engrave these words into his memory bank. 

Score: 11 out of 15 

I'm proud of him! He's four words away from 100%.

An Eight Out of Fifteen!?

I accidentally found a list of spelling words in James's backpack last night! AND a Spelling test from November where he got an 8/15! (Ugh!) If only he had told me about that test he would've gotten 100%. This time though, we're studying together to work towards a better grade.

His next test is December 11, 2012. We have a few days to cram. So I stumbled on this website called kidsspell.com. It allows you to enter your child's spelling word list from school (even your own) and then the words show up in games on the website! Cool!
